Three things I think you'll like
This week, I'd like to share three things that have caught my interest recently that I think you might like, too.
Enjoy! 🙌
1. 🎬 Music by John Williams - A Documentary
This film was an absolute joy to watch - pretty much a must-watch if you're an admirer of his work.
But more than his work...
Learning about Wiliams' life, work ethic, friendshis, and personal character amplified the reverence I already have for the man.
And on a personal note..
I had the privilege of meeting John Williams back in Tanglewood in 2010 when I was 17 years old, and told him how his work was what inspired me to become a composer in the first place.
I'll never forget how he took genuine time to acknowledge me and express his genuine appreciation.
There's a reason why this guy is adored.
2. 📚 The Creative Act by Rick Rubin
I've been mentioning this book non-stop to composers in my mentorship group.
The Creative Act by Rick Rubin has become my "artistic bible" of sorts.
It's what I turn to when I'm feeling stuck creatively and looking for a reminder to stay patient, or a fresh perspective on art.
He's challenged me to question all of the unspoken rules I've made as a composer, video-maker, and writer.
And he inspires me to continue to exercise curiosity to the world around me and inside of me, emphasizing that inspiration is everywhere - as long as you're open to seeing it.
Great, great read.
3. ✍️ My New Fountain Pen
Since I've been journaling more, I've been in the market for a higher-quality pen for a while now - and I finally decided to pull the trigger.
I grabbed the Waterman Fountain Pen off Amazon for around $80, and so far I'm super pleased.
It feels light the perfect size and weight for my grip, and it's incredibly fluid and precise on the page.
But more than that...
Writing with a higher-quality instrument makes me feel like the act of writing is something precious and intentional.
(If you're wanting something something a little cheaper - but still a pleasure to use - I recommend the Sharpie S-Gel Series.)
Either way...
I definitely recommend grabbing yourself a nice pen if you can afford the investment!
