Venus Theory released a video I think every artist should watch.

So many of us hold ourselves back from our artistic potential simply because we don’t think we’re “allowed” to make certain kinds of art.

We think our work is “too derivative”, “too simple”, “too generic”…

… but what you’re REALLY afraid of is that it’s too YOU. And that the YOU that you’re expressing through your art won’t be accepted, understood, or embraced by your listeners.

Spoiler alert: No one will ever care about your art more than you.

Let go of the pressure you’re putting on yourself to be the next [insert famous person here].

Stop trying to make the next [insert famous score here].

Embrace and pay homage to your influences.

Accept where you are.

Just make something.
